7 WAYS TO BEAT THE BLUES AND BANISH THE BLAHS

Every now and then we all go through the blahs which is Dictionary.com defines as a feeling of physical uneasiness, general discomfort, or mild depression. The blahs are quite common in the autumn and winter months due to the days growing shorter, decreasing amounts of sunlight and the colder temperatures.

Here are 7 Easy Ways to Beat the Blahs

  1. Turn on the light It is well known that lights improve bad moods so try getting out but if you are in the UK(bad weather) you might want to add some additional lighting and brighter colours into your home.
  2.  Hang out or call a friend- This is not the time to run into your shell as that can make you feel worse instead call that friend that you are guaranteed to have fun with and have a good chat.
  3.  Find some thing that makes you laughStand up comedy, funny You tube videos, movies, TV shows anything really that cracks you up.  Some clips in this video are seriously funny,  it really cracks me up!
  4.  Comfort food+ TV series- This could be a dangerous slippery slope, the trick is to do it in moderation. Go for healthy alternative like lentil soups, hot chocolate, coffee, dark chocolates, nuts, air popped corn, good ol' cuppa. Most TV series have restarted this season and my favourites at the moment are Revenge, New Girl, Glee etc
  5.  Listen to some music- We all have that music that puts a smile on our face and lifts our spirits, now is the time to turn that up!
  6.  Exercise- I struggle with this  immensely but I've gotta admit it does work. Exercise releases endorphins, which are chemicals in your brain that make you feel good .The trick is to do the form of exercise you enjoy the most for 15-45mins or as long as you can and you'll notice you feel so much better.
  7.  Dress up and wear colours- Looking good is feeling good, I know you don't feel like making any effort and are tempted to wear your uggs and baggy clothes to work but doing the opposite will make you feel so much better. Wearing jewel tones are colourful and comforting, Oxblood is in right now so get on board the colour train and remember to wear with neutrals!
