DIY HEALTHY CHOCOLATE MUESLI

Hello folks hope you are having a great week and enjoying the summer sun.

I enjoy having eggs for breakfast but every now and then, I get a hankering for some good ol cereal and attack Matt's box of Chocolate Alpen. I recently read the ingredients(better late than never) and discovered that it contained a ridiculously high amount of sugar. Alpen Muesli is marketed as a healthy alternative to sugary cereals and I understand that the chocolate increases the sugar content  but not to the extent of having 23.5grams of sugar per 100grams.

Anyhoo decided to trying making my own version and having a blind taste test with 'Le Husband' with interesting results.

DIY HEALTHY DARK CHOCOLATE MUESLI:

2 cup of unsweetened muesli ( w/ or w/o raisins)
2 tablespoons of unsweetened coconut flakes
2 tablespoons of unsalted chopped nuts (optional)
100grams of sugarfree dark or milk chocolate chopped
2 tablespoons of Protein Powder or powdered milk
4 Tablespoons of raisins or sultans
A sprinkle of cinnamon, nutmeg

Directions:
Pre heat oven to 200c and toast the unsweetened muesli for around 10 minutes or till crispy- check at 5minute intervals

Toast chopped nuts and coconut flakes slightly for 2 minutes and leave to cool

Combine all ingredients, make sure the toasted nuts and muesli at room temperature before combining to avoid melting the chocolate.

                                                             Le Husband's comments
  1. Homemade version was crunchier than boxed version.
  2. Boxed version was a lot sweeter.
  3. Homemade version tastes better without raw nuts than roasted nuts.
  4. Really enjoyed the homemade version.

I was really happy with the results knowing that it is sugar free, high protein and guilt free.

Hope this inspires you to
