5 WAYS TO REFINE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE

Happy Friday you guys, hope you have had a great week.

Last week I wrote a about discovering your personal style and quite a few people responded online and in person which was fabulous :). The purpose of that post was to align your personality with your clothes because people make first impressions within 10 seconds of meeting you and by aliging your personality to your clothes, you send out the right message.

Olivia Palermo is a perfect example of someone with a refined personal style
Something a reader was confused about was how two people with the same style essence could have somewhat different style. I explained that this was because your style essence is just the foundation and you can refine your style to suit your lifestyle needs. For instance I am part water and  I have a friend that is water as well but because we have different body types and different jobs we tend to look quite different style wise.
In this post I will be sharing my top tips to help you refine your style whether you are Water, Wood, Earth, Fire or Metal, to suit your lifestyle needs and create an effortlessly stylish look.

1.   Learn to dress for your body type. This is a great way to refine your personal style, as you will learn to draw attention to your best features and away from your problems areas. There are numerous resources on the internet on finding your body shape and clothes that flatter different body types. My recent favourite is Dressipi.com not only do they help you find your body type, they reccomend clothes, that you should wear, avoid and many more styling advice based on your body type.

2.        Get your colours done. Learning what colours suit you is very important, as wearing the wrong colours can wash you out and make you look dull, while the right colours will make your pop! To find out what colours work for you, you can either go to http://www.colourmebeautiful.co.uk/ and book a consultation or use an online quiz or article, I found this article quite spot on.

3.        Fill your wardrobe with basics. Something people who look great all the time have in common is their use of flattering basics. As a wardrobe consultant I encourage my clients to fill their wardrobe with basics of good quality and fit. Your personal Style should be reflected in the wardrobe basics that you chose. It should have a 'YOU' dress, a dress that will make people say  'thats so you' when they see you wearing it.
Here is an example of my wardrobe basic, you can tell straight away that I am a Metal/Water.
Do your basics currently reflect your personality?

4.      Accessorise. The right accessories can transform an outfit; nothing can complete an outfit better than the right shoes, jewellery, scarf, hat, etc... Accessories are also a great way to show your individuality and are worth investing in, but remember less is more and keep accessories simple. One bold statement has much more impact. In the word of the Legendary Coco Chanel "When accessorizing always take off the last thing you put on".

5.     Do not over do it. Ladies this is Über-important nothing kills an outfit faster than overdoing it with too many accessories, too much skin, or too much colour. You’ve heard that too much of everything is bad right? Well this is a perfect application as there is a very thin line between stylish and trashy.

Anyway friends that is all for this week. Next week Friday  I will be discussing some Unforgivable Grooming Sins and how to incorporate grooming into a busy schedule. Please subscribe for updates via email, facebook and follow this blog :)

Have a great weekend

Love

  2. I LOVE Olivia Palermo's Style!!! Absolutely love. (I know I said it on your last post, but I have to say it again)

I did the Dressipi thing, just to see what style they'd say I have: Easy chic, Elegant, Contemporary and Polished (or maybe it's the style I ASPIRE to have :p)

    Lovely post!

  3. I do believe all the ideas you have introduced
to your post. They're very convincing and can definitely work.
Still, the posts are too short for newbies. May just you please lengthen them a bit from subsequent time?
    Thanks for the post.
